When
infants undergo minor painful procedures, best practice is to provide zero
separation from the infant's caregiver (usually the mother) and comfort
measures. Woodstock Hospital is addressing these gaps to meet best practices.
Prior to project initiation only 9% of Maternal Child Women's Health (MCWH)
staff were providing zero separation and evidence based comfort measures for
infants during minor painful procedures. This IDEAS team can the following focus; BIG
DOT Aim:
Baby-Friendly
Initiative (BFI) designation by Dec 31st, 2020
•By January 31st, 2019 – increase the number of staff
preforming routine newborn 24 hour testing at the bedside to 100%
•By January 31st,
2019 – 80% of infant painful
procedures (blood work, injections) are performed while breastfeeding and/or
skin-to-skin if medically stable to do so
