The Ontario Renal Network has released an updated version of the KidneyWise toolkit, which supports primary care providers with information on identifying and managing chronic kidney disease. The toolkit includes a clinical algorithm, nephrology referral form, educational materials for providers, and information for patients. The updated toolkit includes the following changes:
- Revised recommendations on medications for managing CKD in primary care
- New screening guidelines for Black residents of Ontario, recognized as a high-risk group for CKD
- Advice on incidental CKD detection during urinalysis review
- Updated criteria for nephrology referral for individuals without diabetes
