Neonatal care is often reactive to clinical deterioration and not proactive. Neonates often have early warning signs and indicate impending deterioration, which offers the health care team a window of opportunity to mitigate deterioration. By increasing team situational awareness about early warning signs and mitigating deterioration, the long term risk of patient morbidity may decrease.
