Emergency Department patient volumes grow at 6%/year yet MOHLTC plans for a new ED to open in 2019 assume 2% annual growth. Given the lack of measures to slow volume growth, improving throughput is essential to deliver safe, effective care. We set out to address the Ambulatory Care area which are low acuity patients and account for approximately 35% of ED visits in our facility.
