Health care providers in Northern Ontario have been working
hard to address opioid-related harms in our patient population. To
support clinicians in primary care we are happy to share an exciting
collaboration taking place with the Ontario Pain Management Resources (OPMR)
group, and Northern Ontario clinicians. This is an initiative geared towards
helping clinicians support their patients in managing their pain, including the
appropriate use of opioids.
Clinicians in Northern Ontario have made significant
progress implementing harm reduction strategies throughout our vast region
(i.e.
HARMS Program in
Marathon is one example of an innovative approach), and we continue to work to
improve our practices despite the challenges of working in an underserviced
region of the province.
We have an opportunity to work collectively with the OPMR
partners to optimize the use of provincial resources on appropriate opioid
prescribing and related practice management.
We are co-designing a webinar series to provide help to
clinicians to do two things:
- Better use their EMR to access practice-based data, and
- Provide access to opioid and pain management resources for
safe opioid prescribing. The goal is that clinicians will be able to
understand their practice better through their data, implement changes to
optimize their opioid prescribing and then revisit their data to understand impact.
Please join us by registering for the two upcoming
webinars:
Part 1: Data to Knowledge
March 5th at 12:30 PM EST [register here]
- Clinicians will learn to utilize their EMR to better
understand their patient populations dealing with pain and opioid use
Part 2: Data to Knowledge
March 26th at 12:30 PM EST [register here]
- This webinar will support the use of EMR data to provide evidence-based
care for patients living with active and chronic pain,
and for those living with addictions. This webinar will feature the HARMS
program.
NOSM has also created an online
modular learning tool featuring data particular to Northern Ontario and we
encourage you to explore it by visiting their CEPD
website.
We want to hear from you/your team on the progress you are
making to address opioid-related harms and what type of supports you require to
optimize opioid prescribing and monitoring, improve the treatment of pain, and
enhance addiction supports and harm reduction.
