The transfer of patients from the Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit to the cardiac floor was inefficient, resulting in a high avoidable day rate.
Our process review found room for improvement in identifying transfer-ready patients, incorrect bed assignments and number of transfer beds.
We used a collaborative approach to identify improvements and improve flow.
