Summary: In 16 weeks the staff and I at Lakelands Family Health Team reduced my charting time from 7 minutes per patient to less than 3 minutes.
You just had a great visit with your patient that affirms your love for Family Medicine. Now you have to chart the encounter. Do you enjoy doing this? Me neither. We at Lakelands Family Health Team made a small process map change and maximized the use of PSS EMR Custom Forms, Encounter Assistants and OCEAN forms to significantly reduce my charting time. 4 minutes saved per visit adds up to over 60 minutes less charting per day. I have not found a standard that defines how long it should take to chart, so I would like to introduce this topic to hopefully begin that conversation.
